BET (Hons) in Marine Engineering (PA 4507)

UniKL MIMET prides itself in offering Marine Engineering and other marine based programmes since 2004. To date, the University has produced 2,102 graduates with specialisation in Naval Architecture, Ship Construction, Marine Electrical & Electronics, Marine Engineering and Maritime Operations.

Beginning January 2008, UniKL MIMET offers Diploma of Engineering Technology in Marine Engineering (DET ME) programme which is accredited the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and Marine Department of Malaysia as fulfilling the standards set by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). This means that graduates of this programme are recognized locally and internationally in terms of their academic achievement and their practical skills.

Responding to the need to offer Marine Engineering based programme at a higher academic level, UniKL MIMET have introduced a new programme named Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Hons.) in Marine Engineering (BET ME) which is open to enrolment beginning January 2015 intake. This programme is approved by the Ministry of Education (MOE), Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) as well as by the Marine Department of Malaysia.

BET ME programme is the first of its kind in Malaysia and is developed with the intention to produce graduates with the required know how at a higher academic level to fulfil the country’s demand for skilled workers and professionals to work in the maritime sector especially on-board sea-going vessels. This is in line with the rapid expansion of the maritime and shipping sector in Malaysia as well as in other parts of the world.

Programme Learning Outcome (PLO)

The students of Bachelor of Engineering Technology (HONS) in Marine Engineering, upon graduation will be able to:

PLO1 Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and engineering specialization in the field of marine engineering to define and applied practical procedures and practices.
PLO2 Identify and solve broadly-defined marine engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using codified methods of analysis specific to their field of activity.
PLO3 Design solutions for broadly-defined marine engineering problems and assist with the design of systems, components or processes to meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
PLO4 Conduct investigations of broadly-defined marine related problems; locate and search relevant codes and catalogues, conduct standard tests and measurements.
PLO5 Apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering tools to broadly-defined engineering activities relevant to marine engineering, with an awareness of the limitations.
PLO6 Function effectively as an individual, and as a member in diverse technical teams.
PLO7 Communicate effectively on broadly-defined marine engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, by being able to comprehend the work of others, document their own work, and give and receive clear instructions.
